YouTube Lesson Strategy
1) Topic: Irish Folk Music - Students will learn the different styles of music and
their significance to the culture and history. They will learn about the instruments
used in the music as well.
2) Learning Objectives: Students will learn to identify styles of Irish Folk Music.
Students will be able to identify styles of Irish music and the significance of the styles.
Lesson Activities:
A) The students will be introduced to Irish music, first by watching the Sean-nos singer video. They will identify things about the music, such as the feeling and characteristics of the melody.
B) Next I will show them either the Banshee reel video or the Brogan’s bar video. I will have them identify other characteristics about this performance and then compare the two videos.
C) Students will chose a style of Irish music and research the history of music and meanings of tunes. They will find a tune that they like, split off into groups and make an arrangement of the tune they choose. After that they will explain the historical context and the meaning of the tune.
